223 Beaded Jewelry

223 Beaded Jewelry
Object: Hand made daisy chain chokers (and a bracelet)

Acquired: Unknown

From: I made them

Notes: I learned how to make beaded daisy chains like this at summer camp, and as you can see, I made a whole bunch of them, some better than others. I actually prefer to wear chokers over other necklaces, so most of these I wore at least a little before I stopped.

I hope you can forgive me for putting them all in the same shot, I just didn't think we wanted to live through seven posts all of the same thing. Not that we haven't before, but I like to learn from my mistakes, too.

209 Amy Button

209 Amy Button
Object: Button reading 'Amy'

Acquired: Unknown

From: Unknown

Notes: Apparently I made name tags with my real name on them, too.

208 Castle Button

208 Castle Button
Object: Button with a castle on it

Acquired: Unknown

From: I made it

Notes: I used to draw castles like this all the time. See, we had a 'how to draw everything' book that made things just a step up from stick-figures, but really quite cute. I could draw the castles, and a dragon and...a bunch of other stuff, too. By now I'm not sure what was from the book, and what I figured out on my own.

I'm not entirely sure where the button came from, though. Could be anywhere.

207 Qui Button

207 Qui Button
Object: Another Camp-tag button reading 'Qui'

Acquired: Unknown

From: CBH/I made it

Notes: Here's another tag, just like object 206.  This almost looks like I didn't make it because I was never one for those sorts of curly queues, but I'm pretty sure that's my handwriting, so let's assume that I did make it. This one might also be made with gel pens.

206 Qui Button

206 Qui Button

Object: Camp Name-Tag reading "Qui

Acquired: Summer Camp years

From: CBH/I decorated it

Notes: Over the years that I worked at summer camp, the policies slowly changed from 'whatever, we know who the staff are' to 'ZOMG YOU MUST WEAR AN OFFICIAL NAME-TAG AT ALL TIMES OR WE WILL NOT RECOGNIZE YOU!!!' I have my opinions about all that, but it wasn't like I could complain.  Anyway, several of the between-years had us make other sorts of name-tags, and I'm pretty sure this was from one of those.

I'd guess that I secretly used my own gel pens for the image, though, rather than whatever markers Camp provided. And I never wore it much.

202 Hemp Choker

202 Hemp Choker
Object: Choker made with blue hemp and plastic beads, which spell out "Qui"

Acquired: Unknown

From: I made it

Notes: Again with the hemp.  I know I bought the beads one summer (2002?), when I made name-necklaces for all the staff as something nice to do.  I hadn't quite finished all of them, so they were hanging up in the craft house (which I was in charge of that summer), when one of our staff was leaving early.  I'd forgotten to bring her necklace down to the dining hall, so I made a special trip to go get it--only to find that it was gone! In a panic, I handed out all the necklaces, so no more would be lost--at which point I learned that she and one or two other staff had simply taken theirs.

On one hand, they were slated to go to the proper staff, and they DID have those staff's names on them, but this was a personal gift FROM ME, not something that they were entitled to as part of their job, not something our boss told me to make for everyone or whatever, and they had no right to just take theirs. I'm still a bit bitter about the whole thing.

The original necklaces didn't have the hemp, though, just the letter beads and the pony beads on gimp (plastic shoestring/lanyard), and I don't quite recall when I added those to this one. I did wear it for awhile, but the blue would rub off on my skin, the hemp was scratchy, and the black paint got rubbed off the letters so you can't read them any more, so I gave up on wearing it.

201 Hemp Choker

201 Hemp Choker
Object: Choker with hemp and wooden beads

Acquired: Possibly 2006

From: I made it

Notes: I learn to make hemp things. Are you really surprised? This one is too scratchy to wear, although that's true of most hemp jewelry, so I don't even know why I brought it up.

200 Owl Pendant

200 Owl Pendant
Object: Amy-made owl pendant

Acquired: 2001-ish

From: I made it in Art Metals Class

Notes: I think the assignment was to layer things.  This was another thing I added to my complex Halloween Costume, although it didn't go quite so well, even if the costume has some owls involved, so I never tried very hard to keep it with the costume.  It's a neat little thing, but it's too bad about the tarnishing.

196 Pin

196 Pin
Object: Pin made with 'puffies' and ribbon roses

Acquired: Unknown

From: I made it

Notes: My mom used to make fancy greeting cards, and for several years the focus of the card would be one of these puffy shapes--though usually smaller ones.  I made a few crafts with them from time to time, including this pin.  The roses sometimes went into the cards, too.

195 Rings

195 Rings
Object: two Amymade rings

Acquired: 2002ish

From: I made them as a summer camp craft

Notes: We had a really interesting arts and crafts person this year.  I didn't always get along with her, but we found some common ground because we both had the same problems with camp management that summer.  Anyway, whatever else I thought of her, she did a great job with the crafts and the kids.  This was one of the crafts the campers did, and I did along with them.  It's just craft wire wrapped in a circle and going through a bead, but it's pretty snazzy and makes for great camp fashions.

194 Name Bracelet

194 Name Braclet
Object: Bracelet spelling out my name

Acquired: Unknown

From: Made it myself

Notes: Guess who this belongs to.  I could have slid the "is" beads around to sit next to the others, but the elastic is old, and there is something very, very creepy about old elastic, and I don't want to mess with it.

192 Bracelet

192 Bracelet
Object: Plastic pastel-leaved bracelet

Acquired: Unknown

From: I might have made it, actually

Notes: I used to wear chunky plastic girly jewelry on occasion back in fourth grade.  I think I made this, but it would have been one of those occasionally-worn bracelets.

188 Beaded Necklace

188 Beaded Necklace
Object: One Amy-made Beaded Necklace

Acquired: Unknown

From: Me

Notes: These were some of my favorite bead colors.  I still have a bit of the green, but I used up the yellow this past year.

187 Beaded Necklace

187 Beaded Necklace
Object: One Amy-made beaded necklace

Acquired: Unknown

From: I made it

Notes: Made a blue one. I really liked that three-beads per color pattern style.  As I got older I occasionally tried to change it, but I always reverted back in the end.

186 Beaded Necklace

186 Beaded Necklace
Object: Amy-made beaded necklace

Acquired: Unknown

From: Unknown

Notes: Made a few non-pendant necklaces, too, over the years.

162 Book

Acquired: April 2011

From: Lulu.com

Notes: My second self-published paper book, the slightly younger sibling of object 161.  Very exciting.

158 Necklace

158 Necklace
Object: Handmade necklace with heart pendant

Acquired: Unknown

From: Another one I made

Notes: Until I find the magical box where I assume I've hidden more of these necklaces, this is the last one.  You can see that I used gold beads where the gold paint chips off on this necklace, and you can't see, but the pendant used to be shiny golden.  I guess the tarnish and the chipped paint kinda match each other.

157 Necklace

157 Necklace
Object: Handmade necklace with dragon

Acquired: Unknown

From: Me

Notes: Another one. This one with a dragon.  I don't think I was ever planning to sell the dragon, and if there was one of these necklaces which I actually wore, it might be this one.

156 Necklace

156 Necklace
Object: Necklace with turtle

Acquired: College

From: Made by me

Notes: I was taking an African Weaving class at the time, and this was supposed to be similar in technique to some Egyptian beading.  It doesn't really wear too well, but it looks neat.  But not in this picture, which hopefully I'll remember to replace soon because it's actually dizzyingly blurry.
