232 Stone Turtle

232 Stone Turtle
Object: This is a jade and turquoise turtle

Acquired: June 2011

From: Mom, who got it at a  garage sale

Notes: I know I keep griping about the things I'm given, but I actually like this little guy. I don't know that I would have bought him if I'd been along, but he's kinda pretty and fits nicely in my hand. Plus he's made of gem-ish stones, and I like that.

213 Turtle Shell Pin

213 Turtle Shell Pin
Object: Golden Turtle Shell Pin

Acquired: 2005 College Graduation

From: Beloit College

Notes: This might have been from donating money as well as graduating, but I don't really remember.  Beloit College's emblem (but not it's mascot) is the turtle, and I just read an article in Beloit Magazine about how the turtle is entwined into Beloit's past. I like turtles, so it was a good school for me.

177 Earrings

177 Earrings
Object: One pair turtle earrings

Acquired: Unknown

From: Unknown

Notes: Turtle earrings. I like turtles. This was the other pair I decided to keep, mostly because I'm fairly certain they aren't from a garage sale. I had about eight pairs of turtle earrings before the purge; now I have two.

174 Earrings

174 Earrings
Object: One pair turtle earrings

Acquired: Unknown

From: Unknown

Notes: I think this might have been another pair intended to replace the one I'd lost, but I'm not sure.  I believe that it was my first pair of turtle earrings, and it seems to be actual sterling silver. The blue might be a real stone, too.

155 Turtle

155 Turtle
Object: Ugly turtle

Acquired: A few days ago (April 2011)

From: Mom, who got it at a garage sale

Notes: Let's take a short break from jewelry and go on a short rant about why I own too much stuff.  Like this really ugly turtle.  It is, in fact, so very ugly that I can't even tell if it's supposed to be concave or convex. Mom found it at a garage sale (the first one of the season!) and she looked at it and decided that, since it's a turtle, I clearly needed to own it.  Now, I'm not at all opposed to people buying me things at garage sales, but I feel that there should, perhaps, be some limits to what those purchases are.  Ugly turtles, for example, should be left where you found them.

Actually, that's one of the best reasons to go to garage sales with my family instead of sleeping in; if I'm there, I can browse on my own, glance at the turtle, grimace and then move on without touching it.  But I decided not to go that morning, so now I'm stuck with this turtle until I can move out and/or be sure mom won't remember giving it to me and I can get rid of it without hurting her feelings.

134 Hair Bands

134 Hair Bands
Object: Turtle beads cleverly attached to tiny hair rubber bands

Acquired: Unknown

From: Made 'em myself (as if you couldn't tell)

Notes: These are simple and almost silly, but when I put tiny braids in the front of my hair, I really like the option to tie something cool at their ends. There's actually four rubber bands in this picture (two are blue) because there used to be four of these turtle bead things. The fourth one fell off and I'm not sure what happened to it after that. I have more of these beads, so I could re-make the fourth one, but I like the asymmetry of having three of them.
